If you’re a fan of Timbertech products, plan to pay a little extra. Now, that doesn’t mean that Trex isn’t a good product, because it is. ![]() * Price estimation source:įrom looking sat the prices listed above, Timbertech is more expensive than Trex. Timbertech and Trex each have three popular composite decking products each. This will save you more cash in the long run. This bump in price is definitely reasonable when you consider that Timbertech and Trex don’t need to be sanded down and stained regularly. For most people, price is an important factor when investing in new home improvement projects.īoth Timbertech and Trex have a higher price tag than pressure treated wood. The first thing you’ll want to look at is the cost of both Timbertech and Trex. However, when faced with the decision of choosing between Timbertech and Trex, which is the better pick for your property? In order to make an accurate decision, you’ll want to look at price, materials, maintenance, and the warranties for each. Both of these companies produce high-quality decking products. Timbertech and Trex are two of the most popular composite decking companies in the decking industry. Composite decking is really the better choice for most people. ![]() Why? Composite decking lasts longer, there’s no sanding or staining involved, and they’re much more durable. In recent years, many homeowners have chosen composite decking over traditional wood. However, before you take the plunge, you’ll need to decide what kind of material you want your deck to be made out of. By investing in a quality deck, you can have your friends and family over for barbeques, you can sunbath during the warmer months, and gazing at the stars on those cool nights will be that much more fun. Pick what you're going to love in 5 years and get it installed properly. There are a lot of benefits to adding a beautiful deck to your home or cabin. Once you're in a solid, capped, composite deckboard, they're all almost the same. You're going to look out of your window drinking your coffee and like the deck, or wish you went with something different. That Trex is a 3 side cap and TimberTech is 4, that Trex uses a plastic hidden fastener and TimberTech is metal. In the end, I tell my customers that 5 years from now, you're not going to care that Trex is a 25 year warranty and TimberTech is 30 year. I would stay away from the Terrain, the scooped back product saves cost by having less material in the board, but I do not think they are as strong as a solid backed product like the Tropical and Legacy. Also note that every warranty I'm aware of is prorated, and only covers product, not labor. I've never had a fade warranty claim on any capped composite decking product in 5 years. 1 delta is about the slightest change in color that the human eye can detect. They will allow 5 delta of fading before they consider it a faded product and will cover under warranty. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, if it's installed properly, they all perform well.Īlmost all manufacturers of capped boards have a 20-30yr fade and stain warranty. Trex keeps the bottom open to let the board breathe, Armadillo seals the board so nothing gets in or out. Trex caps their board on 3 sides, Fiberon on all sides, but then cuts their groove through the cap, Timbertech caps all 4 sides, but doesn't seal it's ends, and allows you to groove the square edge board, Armadillo caps all 4 sides and you have to seal ends and not penetrate the capstock. ![]() Which is what also makes it more prone to mold and mildew. An uncapped board is going to fade, it's going to suck up sunblock, ketchup, bug spray, wine, and anything else that is dropped on it. The cap provides the UV, stain, and fade resistance. The PVC is not as structurally sound, and has squeaking issues if not installed correctly. Stick to the composite decking over the PVC. I sell decking, and my company stocks 4 composite manufacturers, 2 PVC manufacturers, and have access to another 10 or so manufacturers that I can special order. I'll give you my opinion on the composite decking lines. ![]()
